  • LiveJournal Rants

I recently chose to do a rant on LiveJournal. Although I have a link to my LiveJournal site in the collection at the left, few of you have investigated.

I am going to be making more and more of my entries on LiveJournal, and fewer on Xanga. There are a number of reasons for this, the subjects of future Weblog entries both here, there and on my Am0 Xanga Weblog site. I may even figure out how to automatically move Xanga entries to LiveJournal, making Xanga superfluous to me.

    Come take a look.

  • I haven't checked it, but that would be because I rarely, if ever, come in the front door when I visit here. As you may know I get instant e-mail updates of your site. Instant. Yeah, right. The link in the e-mail brings me directly to the entry. So, I come through the back door as it were. Now I'm going to have to go around the front door to find about what you're talking.

  • I guess I need to become more familiar with LiveJournal. I know JournalScape has subscription capabilities and I know that LiveJournal will email comments made to entries, but I'm not sure how to set up a subscription for automatic email like we get with Xanga. I'll have to look into that. It's all part of becoming familiar with a new service. I'm fairly sure it's possible. It's just a matter of discovering the mechanism.

  • awwww. i'm too lazy/limited in my online time to get over to live journal much, and checking out on xanganites progress via email is my main event - i do like to follow your progress james, i hope you don;t fade away from xanga *pout*...

  • OK - read it and left a comment. Why do you prefer LiveJournal to Xanga?

  • Why prefer LiveJournal to Xanga? Xanga has a lot of baggage, particularly some nonsense called eProps. I like the more elaborate commenting scheme available on LJ, too, but the really big factor is that I can eventually either incorporate LJ into one or more of my Web pages or run a journal like LJ from one of the hosts I use, again, making it part of a Web page.

  • Derek was working on XML capability to post to both Xanga and Livejournal simultaneously - both have their merits, but I much prefer LJ myself...which is why I made the move. The communiity life on LJ is exactly what it purports to be - there are a few nuts, of course...but then, you are going to get that anywhere. LJ gives you better protection to avoid running into crazy people - so I won't be wandering into George Bush's community anytime soon.
